Selma

A few weeks ago all tys went to liffey valley, for a special viewing of the new movie Selma.
Selma is a movie about Racism in America, and the struggle for civil rights. The movie shows us how segregated the south was. Black people were denied the right to vote and were seen as second class citizens. There were thousands of racially motivated murders, and the black community had had enough. They were determined to be equal, and they believed in achieving it in a peaceful manner. The were led my Martin Luther King, who is played by David Oyelowo in the movie. Most people really enjoyed the movie even though it was considered quite sad at times.

The Guards

As part of Ty we get a chance to do work experience.
I got an opportunity to take part in a block week with the guards. I didn't know what to expect from this work experience. But it definitely turned out to be my favorite one's so far. We got to see what life as a guard is like. It interested me more than i expected. I had briefly considered a career in the guards before, but i now consider it more seriously with a genuine interest in the job. Its a career that i can see myself doing, and a career that I would be happy in. On the first day we went to templemore. This was a good experience as we got to see the student guards training and learning. We also got to look around and see all the facilities that were available to them there.
We spent the next two days in the courts. This was also very interesting. We were allowed in on any court case that interested us. We attended many court cases ranging from theft to murder. We also spent a few minutes in the Elaine O'Hara.
The next day we went to westmanstown where we saw all the special units. We saw the mounted unit, the dog unit and the sub aqua unit.

Im am very glad that i got to spend the week in the guards, it was a great experience.

Fashion Show!!!!

Last week our school held a fashion show in Celbridge Manor Hotel. Models were randomly selected from each year. The models had to model clothes from Liffey Valley, Manor Mills and shops in Naas. My group had to model clothes from The United Colours of Benneton and Born.
As well as modeling, there was also musical entertainment and dancing.

A lot of preparation went into organizing the hotel for the fashion show. We had to paint the ramp and back drop the day of the fashion show, and hope it was dry in time for the show.

The show started at eight. The models had to be there at 7, to touch up our hair and makeup.
both nights of the show went very well and everyone involved enjoyed the experience.

My Digital Dossier

As part of our blogger challenge, we had to find out and post about our digital footprint.
I was unaware that I had a digital footprint and had no idea what it was.
From this challenge i learned that our digital footprints are the tracks we leave behind us in digital form.
Most of us have had digital footprints since before we were born, when pictures of our sonograms were sent to family, friends and printed for doctors to use. Our footprints then continue when texts and pictures are sent after our birth.

My digital footprint has grown throughout my life, and still continues to grow every day. My footprint grows every time i like something on facebook or instagram, every time i send a picture on snapchat and every time i tweet. Everything i do on the internet will be added to my digital dossier.
My digital footprint will continue to grow throughout my life, and even after i have died.
I'm glad that i was given the opportunity to learn about my digital footprint.

Halloween💀👹👻

On the friday we finish school for Halloween midterm, every year is giving a theme.
This year the Ty's theme was "zombies".
I was quite happy with this theme to be honest, It required minimal effort on my part. I came to school dressed in dark clothes thinking that was enough of an effort, but I was surprised to see the high standard and the amount of effort everyone put into their themes. I felt severely underdressed, so Pia did my makeup before class and helped me to look even more like a zombie than I did before. Thanks gal;) much appreciated xoxoxox! The day was good and most classes were fun. Everyone was definitely ready for the week off though, and excited for Halloween:)

Work Experience!!!

As part of our Ty program in St.Wolstans, we are given the opportunity to go on work experience on most Wednesdays.
My first work experience placement is in the chemistry department in maynooth collage. This work placement consists mostly of working in the chemistry labs.

I was nervous about starting work experience, I had no idea what to expect! This was our first insight into the world of work and how people are expected to work together. To my relief all the staff were very welcoming and they do their best to make you feel involved.
I'm finding work experience very interesting so far. I work a lot in the labs setting up experiments and making sure all the equipment it out and ready to be used. I also carry out tasks such as ringing suppliers and ordering supplies for the labs.

I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to go on work experience, its very benefitial and it's something to look forward to every week.

Carlingford!!!

On the 15th of September, All the ty's headed to Carlingford for the night. We met at esso at 7:00, as usual I was a few minutes late as I forgot to pack my bag the night before...
When we arrived in Carlingford, we were brought straight to the adventure center where we were assigned our rooms. There were twelve people in my room. We left our bags in our rooms and then started our activities! Our first activity was kayaking, everyone seemed to enjoy it. After kayaking we went back to the adventure center for lunch. Our second activity was laser tag, which was definitely my favorite part of the trip! We were split into two teams (THE RED TEAM!!!...and the blue team), i was on the red team. Everyone got very competitive about laser tag. The red team instructor Martin gave us a number of inspirational quotes to help us win, my favorite being (You miss 100% of the shots you don't take). They clearly didnt help that much since we lost....but the thought was nice!
After laser tag we went back to the center for dinner. We then went back to our rooms as we had two hours till our next activity. While waiting we just ate food and played DS's. Our last activity was from 7-9. It was a night line, We had to walk through a forest in the dark with blindfolds on.
Everyone was pretty tired after the night line. We had the rest off the night off. Some of us went to get Chinese, and then went to a disco that was on upstairs in the center. We had to be in our rooms at 11:00. After that the night consisted of energy drinks, sweets and a lot of shouting! The next morning we were woken at 7:30, we had breakfast and then got ready for more water activities. We went canoeing which was good, but the water was too cold for my liking.
Our final activity's were team building excersises, they went surprisingly well and everyone worked well as a team. After the team excersises we went back to get our bags and then headed for the bus. Everyone was exhausted on the way home, Especially with the thought of school the next day.
I feel that the trip to carlingford really helped our year to bond and become closer.
